The Comeback Falls Short
YORKTON, SK - It was an impressive and rainy first day for the Prairie Dogs but they were able to finish day one with a 1-1 record. PA came out flying on a warm and sunny day two. Tanner Vancoughnett opened up the scoring at the 7:07 mark of the first. Kallen Currie quickly added another to go up 2-0. But the Olden Knights in the final minute to finish the quarter 2-1.
Yorkton struck again at the 11:49 mark of the second quarter to tie the game at 2 a piece. Dillan Cochrane scored the lone goal on the quarter for Prince Albert. Yorkton scored a 2-pointer late in the quarter to take the lead going into halftime.
The Prairie Dogs headed into the second half down 5-3. Vancoughnett’s goal at 10:56 brought PA within 1. Sturgis added another but then Chase Netmaker scored to make it 6-5.
The Yorkton Olden Knights controlled the play for the majority of the game. Yorkton put up 4 more in the early part of the fouth quarter to go up 10-6. However, Cochrane, and Kallen Currie each scored their second goals of the game and Vancoughnett scored his second and third. Javan Bexson also added a pair including the game tying goal at 6:48 of the fourth to almost make the comeback complete.
Prince Albert had all sorts of chances in overtime but could not find the back of the net. After a flurry of shots by the Prairie Dogs, Yorkton was able to get off a fast break and scored to win the game 11-10.
Tanner Vancoughnett scored 3 for the Prairie Dogs in the game. Dillan Cochrane, Kallen Currie, and Javan Bexson each had a pair of goals. And Chase Netmaker added one to round out the scoring for Prince Albert.
PA is currently tied for third place in the SFLL standings after Week 1.
