Prairie Dogs Drop First Game of the Season

SASKATOON, SK - The Prince Albert Prairie Dogs headed down to Saskatoon today for the opening weekend of the SFLL. The Prairie Dogs took on the Saskatoon Plainsmen in the first game of the season. It was a back and forth game but the Plainsmen were able to come away with the 11-9 victory.

The Plainsmen opened up the scoring with a goal early on to go up 1-0. But the boys in blue evened it up with a goal from Tanner Vancoughnett. Just under 3 minutes later, the Plainsmen put another two in the back of the net to make it 3-1. Danny Martin cut the Saskatoon lead in half with his first of the season. But with just over 2 minutes left in the quarter the Plainsmen went up 4-2. Vancoughnett brought the Prairie Dogs close with a goal in the final minute of the quarter to head into the break down 4-3.

Reagan Harding of the Saskatoon Plainsmen would go on to score 5 more goals for the Plainsmen in the game and was a thorn in the Prairie Dogs side throughout the game. Baeden Boyenko would add a couple more for Saskatoon as well.

Brody Holizki picked up a trio of goals in the game for PA. Ryan Robin added his first on the campaign. Ethan Kennedy picked up his first goal in a Prairie Dogs uniform in the game. Kyle Sawchuk rounded out the scoring for PA but it just wasn’t enough and Saskatoon held on for the 11-9 win.

The Prairie Dogs are back in action at 4:00 pm today to take on the Regina Southern Comfort in a rematch of last year’s Harvest Cup Final.
