Prairie Dogs Win Harvest Cup!
REGINA, SK - After three straight wins at the Harvest Cup Provincial Championship, Prince Albert battled the Regina Southern Comfort in a rematch from yesterday’s round robin game. Regina was looking for revenge after suffering an 8-2 loss to the Prairie Dogs.
Danny Martin got the party started early with a goal only 15 seconds into the game to put Prince Albert in the lead early. Tanner Vancoughnett found the back of the net for his first of the game to make it 2-0 for the Prairie Dogs. PA would hold off Regina for the rest of the quarter and headed into the second up 2 goals.
Brendin Currie kept the fast starts going for PA and made it 3-0 only 56 seconds into the second quarter. 5 minutes later, Regina scored to trim the lead to 3-1. A couple of minutes later, Brennan Boruch tickled the twine to widen the lead to 4-1. Regina would score a couple more to make it 4-3. But Brennan Boruch would score for the second time in the quarter to make it 5-3 at half time.
4:55 into the third quarter Vancoughnett would make it 6-3. Regina would add 2 more to send it into the final quarter of the season 6-5 for Prince Albert.
In the first half of the quarter, Boruch and Vancoughnett would score their third of game to make it 8-5 for the Prairie Dogs. The Prairie Dogs began to get a little sloppy in the fourth and Regina scored a pair to make it 8-7. A solid defensive effort for Prince Albert in the final minutes of the game paid off and Prince Albert wins the game 8-7 and take the 2021 Harvest Cup Provincial Championship.
Danny Martin and Brendin Currie each potted a goal of their own in the final game for the Prairie Dogs, while Brenna Boruch and Tanner Vancoughnett both scored 3 for Prince Albert. Matt Robin takes the win in net.
