Bexson is the Hero in Double OT
PRINCE ALBERT, SK - Prince Albert took on Yorkton in game two of a penalty and violation filled game in Prince Albert today.
Prince Albert was caught sleeping early in the game and allowed Yorkton to score 30 seconds in. The Olden Knights went up 2-0 with 9 minutes left in the first. Ryan Robin got the Prairie Dogs on the board with 5 minutes left to go. Kallen Currie tied up the game with 3:30 left to finish the first quarter tied at 2.
Yorkton took a 3-2 lead 3 minutes into the second quarter. Brennan Boruch tickled the twine to even the score. A flurry of goals by the Prairie Dogs in the final four minutes by Brendin Currie, Ryan Robin, and Kurtis Piefer helped PA take a 6-4 lead at the half.
Danny Martin and Tanner Vancoughnett each added a goal in the third to go up 8-4. Yorkton tallied a goal late in the third to bring thr Prairie Dogs lead to 3.
Yorkton brought the score to 8-6 in the first part of the fourth. Just under a minute later, Brody Holizki potted his first od the game to make it 9-6. Yorkton added a pair in the late stages of the frame to make it a one goal game. In the dying seconds of the game, a weird bounce around the goal ended up being tipped by Yorkton and into the net to tie the game 9-9 with 6 seconds left. For the second time this season, Prince Albert and Yorkton are headed into overtime.
Prince Albert had all sorts of chances in overtime but couldn’t find the back of the net. Goaltender Annakah Ratt, and the Prairie Dogs defence shut down Yorkton in the overtime to keep the game deadlocked. One overtime wasn’t enough and the game headed into double overtime. Javan Bexson was the eventual hero for PA when he scored with 2:43 left to win the game 10-9.
Ryan Robin scored a pair in the game while Brennan Boruch, Kallen Currie, Kurtis Piefer, Danny Martin, Tanner Vancoughnett, Body Holizki, and Javan Bexson also scored for the Prairie Dogs. Annakah Ratt took the win in goal for Prince Albert.
PA will take on Regina at 5:30 in their final game of the season at PMP East.
